The Raindrop Technique is a beautifully simple yet deeply rejuvenating technique which combines physiological principles with powerful Native American traditions that emphasize accessing energy for wellness. The effects of the treatment can be profound, and can include not only deep relaxation, but also pain relief, release of pent-up emotions, and immune system support.
The creator of the Raindrop Technique, D. Gary Young, was inspired by a Native American Lakota legend which told of a tribal journey far north into Canada to witness the Aurora Borealis, or the Northern Lights. The legend says that when they arrived, the tribal members would reach their arms toward the night sky while deeply inhaling the healing energy from the dancing lights. The idea of energy traveling through the body, and especially along the spine, in this way inspired the creation of this healing treatment. The combination of energy movement with the application of genuine essential oils results an incredibly restorative experience.
Essential oils are the “lifeblood” of plants, and can have great benefits when applied topically or inhaled. Because essential oils are so concentrated, they are highly effective with very small amounts, having wonderful physical and emotionally balancing benefits. The Raindrop treatment utilizes 9 very powerful oils: Oregano, Thyme, Basil, Wintergreen, Marjoram, Cypress, Peppermint, Aroma Siez (muscle relaxing blend), and Valor (energy balancing blend).
The treatment begins with application of the oils to foot “vitaflex” points, similar to a reflexology treatment. Vitaflex means “vitality through the reflexes". Oils are applied to these points and then the points are stimulated to send an electrical charge down the nerve pathways until a break in the path (caused by damage or toxins) is met and addressed by the chemistry of the oils. The oils are then dropped directly onto the spine from the bottle. This is done this way so that there is no interference by the therapist in the initial reaction between the energy of the oils and the energy of the client. Gentle stroking of the spine and gentle massage to the muscles surrounding the spine help to facilitate relaxation and absorption of the oils for maximum results. A hot compress is applied at the end of the application to further relax the body. All oils are properly diluted to assure safe use.
There are very few contraindications for Raindrop Technique, just about anyone can receive this powerful treatment. Be sure to choose a practitioner who has been properly trained in both the safe use of essential oils and the correct techniques for performing the Raindrop Technique. A Licensed Massage Therapist is preferable, although depending on the state you live in, a practitioner may be able to become properly trained and licensed to perform Raindrop Technique without a specific massage license. So whether you’re just looking to relax, or are interested receiving the wonderful benefits of these essential oils, Raindrop Technique just may be right for you! .
